daiichi plant. watch this time line. reporter: a 9.0 earthquake hits off japan s coast friday. the fukushima daiichi nuclear power plant is located in one of the hardest hit areas. the quake and tsunami knocked out regular and backup cooling systems to reactors one and three. workers begin injecting sea water and boron into the reactors to prevent a meltdown. saturday afternoon a hydrogen buildup leads to an explosion, blowing the roof off the number one reactor building. four workers are hurt. midday monday, another explosion tears through the reactor number three building. the roof and top walls are destroyed. 11 people are hurt. late monday, reactor number two loses its cooling capability. workers begin injecting sea water and boron into that reactor as well.
this is the tsunami. the earthquake hits. it first hits japan, and then you watch as it plays out. this is eight hours later, neen hours later. it begins to hit the pacific coast over here. the united states. ten hours, 11 hours making its way down towards california. as it plays out here, it seems to be there were some initial concerns about the power when it reached this way, but it seems to be now that we could say with certainty, can we not, that the threat was over here and that, yes, we need to watch it here, but there s no major damage expected, correct? i think since it s been already so many hours since the earthquake, the energy in the waves dies out as it spreads out, and i believe that the danger is really over. yes. just to follow-up on that, more aftershocks have been taking place since the initial 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck yesterday about 2:26 local time. given so many number of aftershocks, should there be more ahead and could there be one of the same
