The Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) has said the falsification of soil samples in planning applications for animal sheds is “completely unacceptable” and harms the reputation of Northern Ireland’s agriculture sector.
Northern Ireland is facing its most serious environmental crisis in years after fake planning evidence was used in applications for new farm animal sheds, campaigners have said.
Under the plans, seven underground caverns would be carved out of salt layers under the Lough by a method know as solution mining. The resulting hyper saline salt solution would then be discharged into the sea creating a 'dead zone'.
