Battle Mountain High School selects interim principal

Special to the Daily Eagle County School District announced Monday that Jason Mills was selected as the interim principal for Battle Mountain High School in Edwards for the 2021-22 school year. Mills previously served as the head of school for Stone Creek Charter School, an independent K-8 school with three campuses across the county. Prior to that, Mills spent more than 10 years with Eagle County Charter Academy, serving in a variety of capacities, including teacher, team leader and governing board director. “We’re excited to welcome Jason to Battle Mountain High School and the interim principal role,” Superintendent Philip Qualman said. “He brings considerable leadership experience to this position and is eager to contribute.”

Eagle County Charter Academy s most recent diversity push falls short of expectations

Special to the Daily As a core tenement of its charter agreement with the school district, Eagle County Charter Academy seeks to have a student population that mirrors the greater community. In 2012, the district, through its charter review process, emphasized the school’s need to have a student population that was more consistent with the demographics of Eagle County. Since then, the school has made concerted efforts to provide equitable access for all community members. However, the school has made less significant strides than it originally hoped. composed of 7.3% Hispanic students, 1.1% Asian students, 0.8% Black students and the remainder white students. In addition, 1.1% of its students qualified for free and reduced lunch.

Jasmine Dolcescu and Noelle Razee named Vail Christian High School honor scholars to join the Class of 2025

This year’s recipients of the annual Vail Christian High School Honors Scholarships are Jasmine Dolcescu of Eagle County Charter Academy and Noelle Razee of Vail Christian Academy. Both students earned merit-based scholarships, providing half price tuition each year until graduation from Vail Christian High School. (Special to the Daily) Vail Christian High School recognizes two deserving Eagle County eighth-graders each year as recipients of its Honors Scholarship. Winners are chosen on the basis of grades, standardized test scores, teacher recommendations, written essays and personal interviews. This year’s recipients are Jasmine Dolcescu of Eagle County Charter Academy and Noelle Razee of Vail Christian Academy.

More schools send quarantine notices

Eagle County Charter Academy, Eagle Valley Elementary School and Homestake Peak School sent quarantine notices Thursday after learning of COVID-19 infections, Eagle County Schools said. The positive case at Eagle County Charter Academy was last in school Wednesday, and two cohorts of students will quarantine. At Eagle Valley Elementary School, the positive case was last in school Feb. 5. Eleven students and staff member have been directed to quarantine. The positive case at Homestake Peak School was last in school Monday. Eighteen students will quarantine, with another 21 students transitioning to remote learning for Friday. All students will return to in-person learning Monday, Feb. 22 following the February break.
