international airways flight 405. it was on its way from fort lauderdale on its way down to venezuela. we were just looking on the left-hand side, there it s back, these are passengers that are on the tarmac area after getting off of that flight. we can see parents carrying young children, the mom right there carrying what looks like to be a baby and the dad in front of her carrying a young toddler. some people that do have their bags, it seems. there is the slide deployed on the right from the front of this aircraft, boeing 767. i was reported that fuel was leaking from this plane as it was on the taxiway about to take off and then a fire started. you can see if this were these are not under our control, but you can see under the wing there the charred engine and right under the name of dynamic, you can see the black marks. here s a reverse shot where we do see two of the deployed or
greg meyer is standing by to come over and join us. greg s with the airport as well. he can explain a little bit about dynamic air. why don t you come on this side of me. thank you. dynamic air which has been operating here at the airport for about 6 to 8 months. scheduled service but it operates different than most airlines because it s a charter flight service. they don t work like a normal flight like a delta airlines or someone else here. they have flight schedules, but they have different requirements and that type of thing. they ve been here, as you said, six to eight months. they re headed to caracas, venezuela today, taxiing to the north runway when they had engine problem. the passengers have been evacuated. the fire is out. it appears to be an immediate response here. the airport itself is a busy airport. i know it s currently closed. do you have to remove everything before the airport reopens? no, that aircraft can stay in position because it s on a taxiway. we can c
hi, everybody. i m thomas roberts. welcome to msnbc live. we continue the breaking news coverage that we have been following out of florida at the airport in fort lauderdale. just take a look at these aerial images coming in to us as we see rescue teams, first responders, on their way there. moments ago, you can see the plane which reported a fire on board of this dynamic international airways, flight 405, apparently it caught fire while taxiing for departure. this was at fort lauderdale hollywood international airport. so an aircraft taxiing behind the boeing 767 reported that fuel was leaking from the aircraft and the fire started before, now, here we see passengers that were safely evacuated from that plane on the left-hand side of your screen. on the right-hand side, you can see the active runway and the situation with first responders, where you also see the emergency exit ramps that had been
i mean, you would load a lot of fuel to get down to venezuela so this would be a plane where the fuel tanks are pretty full, making it all the more dangerous if you had the beginnings of a fuel fire and if there s a tank full of fuel, you have a flying bomb there if it s ignited. i m just getting information right now, more specifics about the flight time, hearing that it s not as long as i had originally speculated. it s about four hours roughly from fort lauderdale to venezuela. so not as long as ten hours, as i had thought, but still, a pretty long clip there of four hours that they would need to be in the air. again, fuel was spotted leaking out of the aircraft by another aircraft before that engine or we assume where the fire began in the engine area there, as we see on the wide shot of exactly what the char marks look like. but you see the slide right there. that s the front slide out of this plane.
but the left forward one, the right forward one and the rear on the right were all opened. those three. we can see the forward chute. we just had a close-up of it there. we see now as the camera goes back for a wider shot that the left rear slide was not deployed. then we see the other side, which is the clean side of this flight that was uninjured by any type of fire damage both sides have been deployed. but jay, the reports also are from another aircraft that this was leaking fuel as it was taxiing before the fire started. so explain the dynamic and also the quickness of how something like that can turn into something much like we re witnessing right now so quickly, especially the origination of the fuel leak. how come that wasn t found or determined in any type of proper safety check before departure? all right. there s a number of questions there. basically these engines are very
