Men’s Track Athlete of the Year
GREAT LAKES REGION – Tony Floyd – Madonna (Mich.)
Floyd, a senior from Westland, Michigan, is ranked first nationally in the 5000 at 14:24.32 and second nationally in the 10,000 at 30:06.89. He completed the distance sweep at the WHAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, winning the 5000 and 10,000.
MIDWEST REGION – Matthew Van Eps – Dordt (Iowa)
Van Eps, a senior from Prinsburg, Minnesota, is ranked second nationally in the 800 at 1:49.59 and is undefeated in that event, including a victory at the Drake Relays. He completed the 800-1500 sweep at the GPAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and has 15 total first-place finishes this season.
In a thrilling team battle, Indiana Tech regained the men’s crown at the
2021 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships that concluded Saturday at the Ruth Donohue First Dakota Fieldhouse in Yankton, South Dakota.
The team race was amazingly close as the meet wound to its conclusion. The final session had six events and the team lead changed after all six – with four different programs continually swapping the lead.
In the end, it was top-ranked Indiana Tech on top with 51.5 points, just ahead of second-ranked Dordt (Iowa) with 47. The winning margin of 4.5 points was the meet’s closest since 2011, when 3 points separated the top two.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State University seniors Zachary Co and Alex Otto will compete at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday in Yankton, S,D.
Co is competing in shot put while Otto has qualified for the high jump competition. Both Co and Otto are contenders for All-American honors, which go to the Top 8 finishers in each event.
Both men’s shot put and high jump are scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Co, a senior from El Paso, Texas, is ranked fourth in the men’s shot put. He has a top mark of 16.86 meters this season. Co is looking to improve upon last year’s finish at nationals, where he earned All-American honors after placing sixth in the shot put. Last year’s national champion, Dylan Kucera from Midland, has the top throw in the nation this season at 18.28 meters.
Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.

Miller, a senior from Goshen, Indiana, is ranked first nationally in both the mile at 4:08.42c (4:11.59f) and 5000 at 14:18.08c (14:27.27f). He is also second nationally in the 3000 at 8:16.29c (8:22.06f). Miller won both the mile and 5000 at the Crossroads League Indoor Championships.
