Doane (Neb.) actually strengthened its hold at the top of the National TFRI. The Tigers are clearly a favorite for the title on that basis, let alone having the most entries in the meet – 24 in individual events plus a pair of relays.
Field events are where Doane is slated to make the most noise, with leaders in the both high jump with Jacob Heitkamp and the decathlon with Levi Sudbeck, who won the heptathlon in the NAIA Indoor meet in March. Four other field-eventers are among the top-4 ranked athletes in the meet.
Doane has never won this meet, but finished as runner-up in 2011.
Jacob Hruska in the high jump with his national leading clearance of 2.11m (6-11) and
Richard Dover in the discus (No. 2, 50.15m/164-7). The Tigers’ strength is in the jumps, with three athletes ranked in the top-10 in the high jump (No. 1, No. 5, No. 9) and long jump (No. 4, No. 6, No. 7), while having two ranked in the triple jump (No. 3, No. 8).
Southeastern (Fla.) comes in at No. 2. The Fire gained a new No. 1 performance from
Kyle Manuel in the discus with his heave of 50.33m (165-2), which pairs well with his No. 3 mark in the shot put (17.73m/58-2).
Zachary Nichols improved his season best effort in the hammer throw (No. 5, 56.60m/185-9), while
In a thrilling team battle, Indiana Tech regained the men’s crown at the
2021 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships that concluded Saturday at the Ruth Donohue First Dakota Fieldhouse in Yankton, South Dakota.
The team race was amazingly close as the meet wound to its conclusion. The final session had six events and the team lead changed after all six – with four different programs continually swapping the lead.
In the end, it was top-ranked Indiana Tech on top with 51.5 points, just ahead of second-ranked Dordt (Iowa) with 47. The winning margin of 4.5 points was the meet’s closest since 2011, when 3 points separated the top two.
