The Mustang boys earned a bye and didn’t let it go to waste as they opened up postseason play with a home win over Woodward-Granger 42-29, as heard on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.
It was a low scoring game early as PCM trailed 7-6 at the end of the 1st and the game was tied at 22 through three quarters, but the Mustangs kicked it in gear and dropped 20 in the final frame to put the Hawks away for good.
Carson Vande Lune led the way with 12 points with Andrew Mitchell adding another 10. Not to be outdone, Durant Van Dyke had a whopping 14 rebounds as he put that 6’4” to good use.
The PCM Mustangs basketball teams went on one of their longest road trips of the season and returned to Monroe with a split against the Trojans of Fairfield Monday night, as heard on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com. The girls fell 44-30 and are now 1-12 on the year while the boys won 74-46 to even up their record at 6-6.
The PCM girls had about as rough a first half as a team could have, only scoring two points in each of the first two quarters, and trailed 22-4 going into the break. None of their starters managed to find the basket. The second half was a much different story. The Mustangs came out with a more physical press defense and it sparked their offense in the process. Lilli Baird led the way with 13 points and Emma George had six on their way to out scoring Fairfield 26-22 in the latter half of the ball game.
