When it was all said and done, PCM, Pella Christian, and Pleasantville’s track squads all will have athletes compete at the state tournament next week.
Pella Christian will have at least six events competing in the state tournament. Allison Van Gorp competed in both the shot put and discus as she finished with lengths of 39’3” and 134’8”, respectively. Levi Schelhaas topped both the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. Schelhaas will also be a part of the 4×100 meter relay and the 800 sprint medley relay teams with fellow teammates Peyton Ritzert, Luke Nikkel, Isaac Kacmarynski, and Drew Geetings.
PCM’s Margo Chipps was the star of the night for the Mustangs as she qualified for four different events, three of them in hurdle events. Chipps will run in the 100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, the shuttle hurdle relay, and the 4×200 meter relay. Chipps will run the 4×200 relay with Delaney Baird, Ryan Bennett, and Chelsea Bird. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Senior Andrew Mitchell, who shot 43% from the field and averaged over 13 points per game. Second on the team in scoring was Junior Carson Vandelune, who shot 31% from three-point range and averaged right at 13 points per game. Rounding out the productivity was Junior Durant Van Dyke, who averaged nine points and nine rebounds per game.
The Mustangs will have two starters returning next season, who are Vandelune and Van Dyke. Mitchell, Gatlin Boell, and Grant Landgrebe all will be graduating. A key player to watch for next season will be Sophomore August Stock, who appeared in 19 games this past winter.
