Darlene Marie (Tokarczyk) Johnson, 79, of Duluth died peacefully on July 7, 2022 from dementia. She was born on October 13, 1942, to Edward and June (Hoving) Tokarczyk. After graduating from Duluth East High School in 1960 she attended UMD. In high school and college she was an accomplished majorette and participated in one of the first Christmas City of the North Parades. Darlene met the love of her life, Glenn Johnson, while working at Bridgeman’s on 14th Avenue East and Superior Street. Darlene worked as a waitress, Glenn was an accountant upstairs in their corporate office. They eventually married on June 8, 1963 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Duluth. They built their family home on Dodge Street where they were blessed with 3 daughters in 28 months, and owned it for 59 years. Darlene went back to work at Lakeside Bridgeman’s until 1979 when she got a job with the City of Duluth Water & Gas Department. In 1984 she took a job in the City Auditor’s Office, retiring fr

Faces: Good people and LSBE students Jim Adkins and Bud Krause have volunteered in Duluth for years, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, they’ve both turned it up a notch. Written By: News Tribune | × Good people Jim Adkins and Bud Krause have been recognized by Jacqueline Wacker, coordinator of the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency’s Meals on Wheels program. The men have volunteered in Duluth for years, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, they’ve both turned it up a notch, Wacker said. Adkins has been a volunteer with Meals on Wheels since 2013. He said he loves visiting with the people on his route. Krause began volunteering with the program in 2015. Before retiring, he had worked for The City of Duluth Water and Gas Department for 38 years. Krause also has volunteered with the city of Duluth Senior Programs by serving on the Senior Programs Advisory Board and assisting with parties, bingo and social activities at Morgan Park, Portman and Evergreen comm

James J. Luczak James J. Luczak, 86, of Duluth, died peacefully on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Essentia Health Miller-Dwan. Jim was born in Duluth on July 29, 1934 to Stanley and Stella Luczak. Jim graduated from Denfeld High School in 1952, and married Joyce Sundset on October 13, 1956 in Duluth; celebrating 64 years together until her passing in November 2020. Jim retired from the Duluth Water and Gas Department, after 34 years, working in various departments. Jim and Joyce spent many years delivering Meals on Wheels throughout the community. Jim was an avid sports fan, playing baseball, softball, golf and was the state champion ski jumper in high school. He loved the outdoors, listening to the Twins while sitting on his deck and taking rides around town in his car. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends to Nevada.
