3 killed, 5 injured in Uror attack At least three people were killed, five injured, and thousands of cattle raided in an attack on a joint Dinka-Nuer cattle camp in Pajimar village of Uror County, Jonglei State on Saturday.  Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Gen. Moses Majok Gatluak, the representative for Uror County in Jonglei peace committee, said an unknown number of cattle were recovered. “On Saturday afternoon, two cattle camps in the village of Pajimar were attacked by suspected Murle criminals. Three people were killed and five others injured. Several thousand herds of cattle were stolen, of which some were recovered but we do not know the number.”

Livestock vaccination campaign underway in Duk County A free livestock vaccination and treatment campaign targeting 95, 000 animals in parts of Duk County, Jonglei State, is ongoing. The drive started Thursday last week and will run until November 10. Dr. Abaker Rejab Abdalla, an officer with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in the Jonglei region, told Radio Tamazuj on Saturday that they launched the campaign with an aim of vaccinating and treating 95, 000 cattle, sheep and goats in flood-hit Duk. “The campaign was initiated by the UN FAO and we have the Livestock Ministry and Veterinary Sans Frontiers-Germany (VSF-Germany) as our partners. Our target is to vaccinate 70, 000 cows, sheep and goats in parts of Duk against disease like blackleg, CCP, goat plague, and hemorrhagic septicemia. We are also targeting 25, 000 sick animals with treatment,” he said.

Gunmen abduct four women, child in Ayod: officials

File photo Gunmen have abducted four women and an 8-year-old boy in Ayod County of South Sudan’s Jonglei State, local officials and police said on Friday. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Albino Gatkek, the county’s acting commissioner said the women and the child were abducted along the Ayod-Uror road.  “The information came from one of the women who managed to escape from the kidnappers at the Pabiarol area. The number of the women was five, but one of them managed to escape unhurt and informed us in Ayod about what had happened,” Gatkek explained. The local official pointed out that the gunmen’s intentions were not clear, revealing that the local youth were still pursuing the attackers to recover the abductees.

Duk residents complain of commodity shortages

Duk residents complain of commodity shortages Residents in parts of Duk County in Jonglei State have complained of shortages of basic goods as floods cut off the area from the rest of the state.  Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Tuesday, several residents said basic commodities ran out of stock since last year and they have been relying on wild leaves and relief food aid. “Since August, no basic commodities have been coming to Duk. We are cut off from the rest of the state and Juba. There is no sugar, salt, or even flour. We have nothing to buy with money and we rely on wild fruits called Lalob,” Mary Chol, a resident of Duk Padiet town said.
