ST. PAUL The Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) awarded $12.3 million in Clean Water Fund grants Dec. 17.
Projects receiving funds include $374,625 to St. Peter Wellhead Project 33 through the Nicollet Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), $400,805 for Redwood County Plum Creek Sub-watershed turbidity reduction to the Redwood-Cottonwood Rivers Control Area and $31,800 for McLeod County Drainage Ditch 63 conservation implementation through the McLeod SWCD.
A 4,500-acre Drinking Water Supply Management Area west of St. Peter is the city’s only drinking water source. With the installation of best management practices (BMP), the project goal is to reduce nitrate levels by 50% at the source well.
