GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â As more people get vaccinated for COVID-19, doctors are urging people to still practice social distancing and mask wearing.
The caution is partly due to the COVID variants that weâre seeing here in Michigan and across the country.
Andrew Jameson, M.D., the Division Chief of Infectious Disease at Mercy Health, explained how viruses mutate.
He said, âIts whole goal is just to infect as many people as possible, and anytime thereâs a survival benefit to a mutation, itâll kind of select itself out.â

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich â With a third COVID-19 vaccine on the horizon, doctors are hopeful that it will boost vaccine distribution and immunity.
While the Johnson & Johnson version of the vaccine just 72% effective in protecting against moderate to severe COVID infections, doctors in West Michigan said that any protection is important.
âI get where people are like âOh, Iâll wait around for the Pfizer or Moderna,â said Dr. Andrew Jameson, the Division Chief of Infectious Disease at Mercy Health when talking about understanding vaccine data.
