Renaissance Cleveland Hotel owner plans substantial renovations at historic property

Owner Skyline Investments Inc. plans to renovate the lobby and meeting spaces at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel in the $20 million first phase of a broader makeover. The public areas of the hotel haven t been overhauled in decades.
The owner of the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel is preparing to launch a substantial makeover of the 102-year-old landmark in the heart of downtown.
Skyline Investments Inc., the Canadian hospitality company that has controlled the hotel since 2015, revealed its intentions in a recent filing with the Ohio Development Services Agency. The company expects to apply for $2 million in state historic preservation tax credits this month to help finance the $20 million first phase of a larger project.

Downtown Cleveland grappled in 2020 with a steep decline in foot traffic as the coronavirus pandemic sidelined events, sent office workers home, threw hotels into a tailspin and put some stores and restaurants out of business. Prospects for 2021 are looking sunnier, though.
The office market held its breath. More than a dozen shops and restaurants opened even as others shut their doors. Apartment occupancy slipped. And hotels, unsurprisingly, saw occupancy plunge by more than 58% as the pandemic and lockdowns kept travelers at home.

CLEVELAND, Ohio More than 200 Northeast Ohio women gathered Monday to speak about their careers, from the difficulty of networking during the pandemic to the challenge of imposter syndrome.
The second annual Mentoring Monday Summit, presented by Advance Ohio, including The Plain Dealer and cleveland.com, took place virtually this year but still aimed to help professional women in Northeast Ohio create a network while learning from one another.
The summit included reflective one-on-one speed coaching with mentors, guided roundtable sessions, and larger group conversations.

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - More than 15 restaurants are offering specials for Downtown Cleveland Restaurant Week, which starts Friday.
It spans from Feb. 19 to Feb. 28. Dining options include outdoor, in-person, delivery and to-go.

ORANGE, Ohio In order to share the joy of Purim, Temple Emanu El of Orange will celebrate the holiday with 10 days of fun, including creative online and socially distanced events for the whole family, beginning Feb. 19.
