TOMS RIVER, NJ Fire damaged a deck at the home used for the filming of the 1979 movie The Amityville Horror, authorities said Wednesday evening.
The fire on Brooks Road was reported about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday by a neighbor who heard an explosion and saw the fire, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.
The neighbor told police he did not believe anyone was home, she said. Firefighters with the Toms River Fire Company were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which had caused a propane tank to explode, on the rear deck of the home.

A Toms River home where the 1979 movie “The Amityville Horror” was filmed was damage by a fire early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Police and firefighters were called to Brooks Road home around 1:30 a.m. for a report of an explosion and fire at house and when they arrived, a neighbor told first responders that nobody was inside the home, according to Toms River Police Spokeswoman Jillian Messina.

TOMS RIVER, NJ Fire district elections are underway in Toms River Tuesday. The annual elections include a vote on the districts budgets and election of fire commissioners.
Voting is until 9 p.m. and open to registered voters.
Toms River has two fire districts. Each has a set of fire commissioners and a budget to be voted on. In Toms River, Fire District 1 receives some reimbursement from Fire District 2 for joint expenses of the two districts, including costs for the Fire Training Academy, the Bureau of Fire Prevention, and communications. The budgets also pay for training, education and protective gear for the firefighters, who are volunteers.
The Forest Fire Service firefighter who collapsed while battling the Lakewood wildfire weeks ago regained consciousnesses on Wednesday and is making progress, according to his family.
The wind-whipped fire along the Garden State Parkway burned 167 acres on March 14. Dozens of homes were put at risk on both sides of the highway. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said a preliminary investigation determined the fire was intentionally set but no arrests have been made.

The firefighter was identified by his son to New Jersey 101.5 as Brian Sauers who is in his early 60s, a volunteer member of the East Dover Fire Company and a municipal engineer for Lakewood. He was working the fire in back of the Lowe s store on the Brick/Lakewood border when he collapsed, his said.
