Ketchikan’s school board is set to consider 10 applications for a vacant school board seat Thursday. The board voted last week to briefly reopen applications for the open seat after an initial two-week call for applications attracted only one candidate.
According to Ketchikan’s school board clerk, the candidates are Van Abbott, Jack Finnegan, Douglas Gregg, Rushcelle Hull, Nicole Linn, Charlene Meeks, James North, Deborah Simon, Jacob Dean Trumble and Christine Willis.
The candidates’ applications, including their answers to a questionnaire asking why they’d like to join the board, are posted at the school board’s website.
SB to weigh 11 applicants for interim board position
Ten more members of the community applied for an open spot on the Ketchikan School Board by the time the application period closed on Tuesday evening â a show of interest unprecedented in recent years.
On Thursday, the Ketchikan School Board will hold a special meeting to interview the candidates and decide whom to select for the position.
The board last week postponed an interview it had scheduled for the applicants for the spot and reopened the application period, after only one person, former Board President Trevor Shaw, applied by the deadline.
At that May 26 board meeting, two members of the public urged the board not to appoint Shaw to fill the position.
