RELENTLESS in the pursuit of animal rights, I’ve been lobbying the Government to make time to get my Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill back on track given the coronavirus impact on Parliamentary business. I’m delighted that my Bill is due to return to the House of Commons this Friday 12th March. At the time of writing, over 22.5 million people across the UK have received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine. As of 28th February, 44 per cent of West Dorset constituents had received their first dose – that’s the 4th highest proportion of any constituency in England! This number has now climbed higher still, paving West Dorset’s route out of lockdown which began with the return to school on Monday.

FORDINGBRIDGE Town Council says it can see “no justification” for any expansion in Alderholt and more housing would impact on existing highways problems. The council has responded to Dorset Council’s draft Local Plan for 2021 to 2038, setting out its vision for future development. Two options for Alderholt are being put forward - one for “small-scale expansion” on land north of Ringwood Road with around 300 new homes as well as land for employment facilities while the second is for “significant expansion”. Fordingbridge Town Council says New Forest District Council (NFDC) Local Plan, which has already been adopted, will see a “considerable increase” in the number of houses in the town and that any increase in houses under either proposal in Alderholt would have “further significant adverse impact” on the roads in the town.
