Extra 3,500 homes could destabilise town s future

North Dorchester area AN EXTRA 3,500 homes for Dorchester, being proposed by Dorset Council, could destabilise the county town’s future – according to the town council. It says the unitary council has done little to justify the Dorchester North site for the extra housing, other than it being a ‘quick fix’ with a ready developer. Town councillors were told at a meeting on Monday evening: This specific site carries a significant level of risk that it will fail to address the local needs of the town, nor will it produce a comprehensive, relevant, viable and sustainable development that supports the area’s future rather than destabilising it.

Save The Area North of Dorchester hangs banner in town centre after it is removed by Dorset Council

A BANNER campaigning against a huge 4,000 home development proposed north of Dorchester has reappeared in the town centre - just days after it was removed by the council amid a row. The council says the banner does not conform to its rules, which state only charity and community event notices can be displayed, and that it is unimpartial. But STAND argues the proposed housing development - which is several times larger than Poundbury, on an historic area of countryside - is arguably the most important community event to happen to the town for a generation.
