Which has been an institution that was essential to my life as a historian. Have taken up residence in the archives in every book i have done has been a central part of the information that has come from there. And it is just an organization that is essential to anyone looking into not only the history of boston but this country. And the genesis for bunker hill goes back to the summer of 1984. My wife and i had just moved to boston fulltime. We were living at the north end. That time, i was a feeling failing journalist, but my primary responsibility was to be with my daughter at home. Hes going to talk to us about it. The book is the road to concord how four stolen cannon ignited the revolutionary war. He will defend that premise for us a little bit later. I want to tell you what my reaction to this book is because i have had the opportunity to read it already. It is one of three books in the last 20 years i read cover to cover in one sitting. I dont read quickly. The reason i read it cover to cover in one sitting is it is extremely well written. It is graceful prose of an oldfashioned sort. And second, it is wonderfully researched, when i was taught in graduate school to refer to as a revisionist work in history. All good works of history if they are good are revisionist in some way, but he is telling us a new story about the coming of the revolution in massachusetts. A story you migh
Tonight we are delighted to have derek beck presented the war before independence 1775. Derek has always had a passion for military history which inspired him to start his career in the u. S. Air force, he has served as an officer on active duty and science roles and in space operations. In 2005 he earned a master of science degree at m. I. T. Where he also fell in love with bostons revolutionary past. To more fully pursue writing, he later transitioned to the air force reserves, though he still remains quite active, presently holding the rank of major. Dereks first book igniting the American Revolution, 1773 to 1775 received an Honorable Mention here at the Fraunces Tavern museum book award in april.
