we have a child on the line. he is in a room full of victims at this moment. cnn has not been able to independently confirm that video, but source of this video sun clear, and it s also not clear at what point in the incident that audio is heard. cnn has reached out to authorities. but we do know that texas authorities, what they said on friday that there were at least eight 911 calls that day from at least two separate callers inside the school over a span of 50 minutes. this all comes as the justice department announces it will investigate the police response to the shooting. and meantime the community will hold its first services for two victims of the tragedy later today. we ll have more on that in a moment but first let s get straight to cnn s paula reed live for more on this investigation and the new doj s role. what do you know with the doj s involvement? that s exactly the kind of evidence that the doj will want to examine as it conducts its review. this is not
texas. they will make a visitor robb elementary school, paying the respects of course to the elementary school, the memorial has been built up around that school there. they ll then move on to sacred heart. and a ten mass for an hour long service there. paying their respects to the community. and then it is the task that a president takes on every single time a mass shooting like this happens. and it is visiting with the victims and the victims families. paying their respects. this president knows all too well what it was like to lose a child as he did so many years ago. and quite recently as well. and i m sure he ll lend what he has learned in that moment to these families. but nothing can provide solace in the comfort that these families need right now. because all they want to survey these back in their arms. that s nothing this president could ever provide for them. he ll also be meeting with first responders as well. we re going to be tracking the location of the preside
with the state s top law-enforcement official cult that delay quote the wrong decision. meantime present biden first lady jill biden will visit the devastated community tomorrow to console families and mourn the victims. jeff paul is live in uvalde with more. days of sadness now turning into anger for this community after law enforcement is admitting mistakes were made. one of those being the local on-site incident commander who was in charge at the time change the response from a mass shooting to a man who is barricaded inside the classroom for it as a result you had up to 19 officers for several minutes up to 45 minutes and beyond standing in the hallway trying to figure out a way to get into the classroom. authorities believe as the clock was ticking children were inside the school is that shooting was unfolding calling 911 their begging operators to police and police send police now. eventually border patrol agents showed up and got a master key to open up a classroom d
evacuating students and teachers from other parts of the school. even negotiating with the suspect. but they didn t have enough information on his exact location for an immediate take down. video from the school from outside the school meantime shows parents screaming at police to storm the school. the wall street journal talked to one parent who says she was put in handcuffs. police tackled another parent and threw them to the ground. and a third was pepper sprayed. police insist their actions inside the school did save lives. the american people need to understand that officers are making entry into the building. they do not know where the gunman is. they re hearing gunshots, they re receiving gunshots. at that point, if they proceeded any further not knowing where this suspect was at, they could have been shot. they could have been killed. at that point that gunman would have the opportunity to kill other people inside the school. video posted oen facebook shows the
good evening, jeff. yeah, bret. after days of growing frustration within this community here in uvalde, texas, law enforcement now says mistakes were made. for the first time on the record, texas dps investigators admitting that there were kids inside the classroom with the shooter as the clock was ticking that might have been helped. people hindsight now that of course it was not the right decision. a wrong decision. there is no excuse for that. but, again, i wasn t there. i m just telling you from what we know we believe this should have been an entry as soon as you can. hey, when there is an active shooter the rules change. it s no longer, okay, it s no longer a barricaded. you don t have time. you don t worry about outer perimeters. we are also learning today the shooter entered through open door that had been propped open by a teacher. investigators also say most of the shots being fired in the first few minutes the local incident commander at the time of the shoot
