At Tuesday night’s meeting, Indiana Borough Council praised the Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl for his pro-active approach concerning police relations in the community and dealing with racism.
The chief was praised for his efforts on those issues since he was promoted to chief, according to Donald Lancaster, and for his efforts in keeping in communication with the citizens of Indiana County, especially in stressful times. He said that Schawl has been, in his words, way ahead of the game.
Schawl was also praised for his recent community outreach effort by scheduling meetups with the public both on Zoom video chat and in-person at Cafe Amadeus. Chief Schawl cancelled Tuesday night’s zoom meet up and Wednesday morning’s meet at Cafe Amadeus out of respect of the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial in Minneapolis.
