Miles Lyman Winship was born on April 6, 1930, in Butte, Montana, to Lawton “Glenn” Winship and Elsie (Loeppky) Winship. After his mother, Elsie, passed he was raised by Glenn and his stepmother, Tekla (Kraftenberg) Winship. Miles lived and worked on his family farm in the Bitterroot Valley throughout his childhood.
