A new Chaffee Rec Adopters program that begins July 13 is seeking volunteers to use a newly developed mobile app to inventory dispersed campsites at twice monthly meet-up and training events.
âAdoptersâ also can inventory sites on their own and take actions in areas important to them, once they receive a short training, a press release stated.
âVolunteers will directly contribute to healthier lands by documenting campsite locations and optionally picking up trash, fixing campsite containment fences and poorly built campfire rings as they provide more presence in our beautiful outdoors,â Dominique Naccarato, executive director of the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association, a program partner, said in the release.
Salidan John McGowan gave a counter presentation to the Nestlé Waters North America economic impact study and Tom Bomer of Unbottle Chaffee County gave comments during the 1041 permit hearing Tuesday.
Chaffee County Commissioners acting as the 1041 permit authority listened to McGowan and Bomer during a public hearing. Â
Many of the comments during the meeting focused on the impact plastic bottles have to do with the environment and the possible effects of the permitted water use on local drought conditions.
Several Chaffee County residents also expressed opinions, pro and con, regarding the renewal of the permit and the impact the operation has on the county, during the public comment portion of the public hearing.

May 15 marks the fifth annual Colorado Public Lands Day. In May of 2016, Colorado became the first state in the nation to establish a state holiday for our public lands. Colorado Public Lands Day is an opportunity to celebrate public lands, which are central to our economy and our quality of life.

The COVID-19 crisis highlights the importance of nature and open spaces to Coloradans. The past year emphasized more than ever before that investments in Colorado’s lands, waters, and wildlife are critical pieces of a recovery that builds back better by creating family-supporting jobs and protecting public health.
