EAST LIVERPOOL The East Liverpool Municipal Court is introducing a new veterans treatment program to its offerings in 2021, as officials recognize that vets have particular needs due to their service in the United States armed forces. According to Judge Dominic Frank, it will be the first program of its kind in Columbiana County. With the help of Justice for Vets, Sara Norris, who oversees the court’s probation department, explained that Judge Frank made institution of a veterans court a top priority when he came to the bench in 2020.

Glen Ridge Motel in East Herkimer closed down; last tenant seeks home

Times Telegram Only one tenant remains at the Glen Ridge Motel on Route 5 in East Herkimer, and he’s planning to leave as soon as he can secure an apartment and find help to make the move. Lee Holtz Jr. uses a wheelchair to get around, and he lives there with his dog, Deogee. Both situations have complicated the process of finding an accessible apartment so he can leave the motel complex, which has been condemned due to multiple codes violations. The facility has not been used as a traditional motel in years. Instead, people rented rooms by the week or the month and some stayed for years. A fire last year in the house that served as an office for the complex left the interior burned out, according to Herkimer Town Councilman Vito Carbone, who has been working with Herkimer Town Codes Officer Ken Collis to deal with codes issues and has been helping tenants find places to live.

sujhelyi@reviewonline.com EAST LIVERPOOL A month after an appeals court ruled against city police and remanded the case back to East Liverpool Municipal Court, Judge Dominic Frank dismissed it Tuesday. Frank granted Assistant County Prosecutor Abbey Minamyer’s motion to dismiss the 2019 criminal charges without prejudice against Joseph DeSarro II, Duke Vodrey Road. In their Dec. 16 dated decision, Judges Gene Donofrio, Carol Ann Robb and David A. D’Apolito of the Seventh Court of Appeals reversed the case before Frank’s predecessor Melissa Byers-Emmerling and suppressed all evidence, alleging an unlawful search. The charges stemmed from DeSarro’s March 29, 2019 arrest.
