DJ Stewart homered twice, then forced in the winning run when he was hit by an Aroldis Chapman pitch with the bases loaded in the 10th inning as the New York Mets beat Texas 6-5 on Wednesday night and dropped the Rangers into third place in the tight AL West. Stewart also made a running backhand catch while crashing into the fence in the ninth inning, robbing Marcus Semien of an extra-base hit.
Nathaniel Lowe hit a two-run single with two outs in the ninth inning and the Texas Rangers rallied past the New York Mets 4-3 on Monday night for just their second victory in 11 games. It was the first win for the Rangers this season when trailing after eight innings. “Huge win,” manager Bruce Bochy said.
Max Scherzer had another strong outing for the Texas Rangers except for one thing. It hardly mattered as Scherzer worked his way through the frame as efficiently as he had the previous six. Scherzer had six strikeouts and pitched three-hit ball over seven innings and the Rangers extended their longest winning streak in seven years to eight games, beating the last-place Oakland Athletics 6-1 on Tuesday night.
Adolis García hit a grand slam to highlight a seven-run fifth inning and the AL West-leading Texas Rangers slugged four homers in a 13-5 win over the Houston Astros in a tense game Wednesday night. Following his grand slam, García and Marcus Semien exchanged words with Martín Maldonado. No punches were thrown in the scrum around home plate, but Maldonado and Semien were ejected.
Kyle Tucker and Martín Maldonado homered, rookie starter J.P. France worked seven solid innings and the Houston Astros beat the Texas Rangers 4-3 on Tuesday night. The injury-plagued Astros could see the return of stars José Altuve and Yordan Alvarez on Wednesday when they go for a series sweep and the top spot in the division.
