Corey Seager homered and drove in three runs, Jonah Heim hit a solo home run and the Texas Rangers routed the Toronto Blue Jays 9-2 on Thursday night to complete a four-game sweep. Robbie Grossman reached base four times and drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk as the Rangers (82-64) won their sixth straight, moving 2 1/2 games ahead of the Blue Jays in the AL wild-card race. “Whenever you can sweep a team, it’s great, especially when it’s the team we’re fighting with for a wild card spot,” Heim said.
Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right patellar tendon before Friday’s series opener against Oakland. Texas selected the contract of right fielder Evan Carter, rated the No. 8 prospect in the minors by MLB Pipeline, from Triple-A Round Rock.
Texas Rangers slugger Adolis García left in the second inning of their game against the Houston Astros after the All-Star right fielder came down hard after leaping to try to prevent a home run Wednesday night. The ball hit by Michael Bradley was just beyond the reach of García when he leaped at the wall to try to make the run-saving catch. García’s right leg appeared to jam hard when he landed, and he was in obvious pain as he moved around slowly.
All-Star slugger Adolis García, the American League leader with 100 RBIs, will be placed on the 10-day injured list by the playoff-contending and slumping Texas Rangers after an MRI on Thursday revealed a patellar tendon strain in his right knee. General manager Chris Young said García won’t need surgery and that the team is “cautiously optimistic” he might be able to return this season for the Rangers, who have 23 regular-season games left. Texas is going to call up top prosect outfielder Evan Carter, and he will join the team for the opener of a weekend series at home against Oakland on Friday night.
Adolis García and the struggling Texas Rangers found a temporary solution to their problem of hanging on to leads as they enter the final month of the AL playoff race. García homered leading off the bottom of the ninth inning after striking out his first four times up, lifting the Rangers to a 6-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. García drove in his 100th run of the season on his 34th homer, a 430-foot drive into the second deck in left field.
