he is above bernie sanders in iowa, as you take a look at the national iowa and new hampshire averages. they are, you see biden and warren. but it is changing. let s bring in our panel. wall street journal reporter, shelley holiday. chris, first to the changing tide in iowa. it seems like something is happening. yeah. i mean, look, buttigieg is having his second moment. he s really chicken. it cooks up right. bret: that such a west virginia way to put it. he is having his second moment. bret: okay. and, it s beautiful as someone who officiates the practice of politics. people who are good at doing politics. this guys put the work in. he s doing it the right way, not by trying to buy a billion
2020 democrats are trying to avoid it. i would prefer for the conversation to be about politics. tulsi is not being groomed by anyone. i m not taking issue with her at all, but we all need to be able to unify a high and whoever nominee is. why did clinton in the middle of a book tour allude to tulsi gabbard at all. it has to do with 2016. people warned me in 2016 that my endorsement of bernie sanders would be the quot ants of my political career. they tried to destroy my reputation. she got into a public fight about dominic over the number of debates. i m endorsing
but the problem is she didn t. she didn t interview with maureen dowd in the new york times and compared that to the fact that they only have four votes here in the house. she s a vote counter. but this is a new way of doing politics. as we know, donald trump has really fundamentally changed how you do things kind of the way the media covers what happens and aoc is very tapped into that way of doing business. so, you know, i don t think we ve quite seen the end of this quite yet. you know, but i m interested to see if they now try to build their relationship or if it continues to fracture. that s the question i have. sahill, you spent a lot of time up on the hill there. and i don t think nancy pelosi fears them yet because, as she pointed out, they got four votes. this isn t the freedom caucus yet. they don t have a block yet. moderates have a bigger block to essentially hold her hostage
doing politics where you aren t criticizing your opponents, or at least attacking your opponents on foreign soil. so i think it gave him a good opportunity to contrast himself with donald trump. so i guess if you re biden, kirsten, do you want to do anything, or do you just let this ride for awhile until you really have to get out there on the campaign trail? well, i think it would be better for him to be out there a little more than he is, but it s still very, very early, and i don t think that i suppose if you re on his campaign, you might be thinking the less he s out there, the less likely he s going to make a gaffe or say something problematic can i jump in here right now? yeah. i hear that whole gaffe thing, right, and i know what everybody means by that, but aren t we in a gaffe not even free. a gaffe-free zone considering the person we have in office right now? you can pretty much say whatever you want right now.
biden. he s not accomplishing anything here. kirsten, let s just imagine, if you will, that you re simone sanders or whatever i m joking. you re kirsten powers and you re on team biden. you got to be loving the attention from this president, right? do you think it only helps biden? definitely for the reasons that frank just outlined, but also because it gives biden the opportunity to do the contrast that he wants to do. this is exactly how he wants to be contrasted with donald trump. he wants to be the person who is the statesman, the person who is bringing a sense of morality and decency back to the presidency. so it gives him an opportunity to kind of rise above it in the way that he also waited to criticize the president until he was back on american soil going back to this what now seems like a very old-fashioned way of doing politics where you aren t criticizing your opponents, or at least attacking your opponents on foreign soil. so i think it gave him a good opportunity to
