announcer: this is nbc nightly news with jose diaz-balart. good evening a new front has opened in the nation s on going battle over abortion rights. not even a year after roe v. wade was overturned, leaving it up to the states to determine whether abortions are legal, a federal judge issued a ruling that would halt the use of the commonly used abortion pill natitionwide the decision came down late on a friday of a holiday weekend, but the reaction today was swift with some small protests across the country. the suspension doesn t go into effect for seven days, and the biden administration is vowing to stop it the case seems destined to rocket up the legal system, possibly all the way to the supreme court. we have two reports tonight beginning with dasha burns who has been with activists on both sides. red state, blue state, we can t hide reporter: tonight, activists outraged over a texas judge s
further victims, and that s hard to look at as well. i have i have survivor s guilt because i wasn t able to stop it somehow. we pray for those other women. absolutely. todd, harris was articulating earlier, now that we ve seen this disconnect between the city council and the mayor, seattle went through their own version, where the city council was so frankly socialist, the city including the mayor, they tried all kinds of things to stop, but that s what happens when they are voted in. they actually have so much more power than the mayor does. credit, this doesn t go into effect until 2025. i m praying this stops, but at the end of the day, hopefully the mayor does not win this fight with the city council. congress and president biden could put a stop to this. d.c. is not a state as far as the purview of the federal government at this point. i was come back to this: government s only function is to keep my family and me safe, to
inflation. with 8%, and this opec move is not going to help. there is one caveat to that, that doesn t go into effect until november, so we haven t seen gas prices move up much since the announcement. oil popped a little bit on the initial announcement and will likely go higher, once it is in effect. but you are, as a voter, quite concerned about the prices that you re paying for other stuff, pretty much everything, and you know, gas could go back up again, and be a problem, for biden. and they had been riding a little bit high on people s minds, moving to the abortion issue, to all of trump s scandals, the overturning of roe, and we ve seen in multiple polls, democrats better than they were, sometimes slightly ahead of republicans, this is obviously not helpful to their cause, and it is also frankly an embarrassment to this white house, and would be hard pressed not to do this, meeting with mbs, that roben referred to, absolutely no love lost there, particularly khashoggi related
hours of the morning. and they started letting in patients inside of the mississippi last abortion clinic long before it opened. now they are actively doing abortions and we were able to speak with the abortion providers inside. he said he s been doing this work for 30 years because he believes in it so strongly. that this is the right to health care for women and he came specific to mississippi because there was such a need. he s concerned now after the next ten days because it doesn t go into effect right away in mm mississippi. and there is a ten day period and after that ends what will happen to the women of mississippi. and if you look on a map, you ll see this state is surrounded by other states that have trigger laws. so you ll have to either drive for several hours or get on a plane to get to another state to have access to an abortion. along with those concerns and the procedures that are happening inside of this building that many of the locals here call the pink house, we ha
