viewers joining us here in the united states and all around the world. you are watching cnn newsroom, and i m rosemary church. we are following developments out of ukraine where explosions continue to be heard in central kyiv. the first blast came just hours ago, and one official says russia is now attacking the capital with kamikaze drones. cnn s chief international correspondent clarissa ward joins me now from central kyiv. what is the latest on this? reporter: so, essentially, rosemary, people here woke up to the sound of air-raid sirens followed by two loud explosions. then there were at least another two explosions, and we re right in the center of the city at the location or right next to the location of the impact of one of those blasts. you can probably see behind me there s still a lot of smoke in the air from that explosion. we don t know yet how many people may have been injured or possibly killed in this series of blasts here in the capital. we did speak to th

behind the scenes. a specific meeting inside the white house is looming large. a meeting the committee says has been described to them as insane. a meeting that s preceded by hours, former president trump s tweet calling on supporters to be at a protest in jog on january 6th and that it would be wild. committee member jamie raskin who will lead today s hearing said when trump wrote this, he became the first president in american history to call for a protest against the peaceful transfer of power. committee says the hearing today will focus on how extremist groups were inspired by that tweet. how they mobilized in response, coming to washington that day. and also, what connections exist between trump s circle and these extremist groups. witnesses include rioter stephen ayres who talked about the civil war. and a former spokesperson for the oath keepers will also testify. we re also learning that the committee will reveal new information by members of congress to pressure fo
gets underway on this monday night. good evening once again, i am stephanie ruhle. and by this time tomorrow we should know substantially more about what led to the january 6th insurrection. beginning at 1 pm eastern tomorrow, the house select committee will reveal what it has learned about the role extremist groups played in the violent assault on the capitol. this will be the panel s seventh hearing thus far. one committee aide tells nbc that tomorrow s testimony will focus on how donald trump summoned the mob, as well as the actions of militia groups like the proud boys and the oath keepers. the hearing is also expected to look at how some of these right-wing groups had ties directly to trump associates, including roger stone and general michael flynn. and revealed ties between some trump associates, and the qanon movement. a former spokesman for the oath keepers is expected to be one of the witnesses. testimony also s expected from an ohio man you ve never heard of. this
hour. the announcement comes after five hearings this month that were chock full of really juicy, previously unknown details and lots and lots of brand new evidence on the lengths that trump and trump officials and trump advisors and trump allies went to try and secure a second trump term illegally. the committee s chairman, bennie thompson had said more hearings were set for next month as the committee absorbs a mountain of new information from documents from the trump white house and tips from the public as well as new witnesses coming forward. politico reported this about the work of the committee in recent day, quote, the select panel has maintained its investigative work even as it ramped up its pace of hearings. documentary filmmaker alex holder who had extensive access to the trump family met with investigators last thursday morning after getting subpoenaed for his select panel for his recordings and his testimony. the panel also sent a letter to virginia tom a thomas,
