Murder indictment accuses two Kingston men of 'depraved indifference' in killing of 12-year-old girl

KINGSTON, N.Y. – Two city men have been indicted on a charge of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old girl, according to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office. Gilbert Thomas, 24, 9 Franklin and Robert “Nikki” James, 46, both of 49 Franklin St. were indicted by an Ulster County Grand Jury, according to the DA’s office. The indictment was handed up Wednesday, Dec. 30, the office said. Thomas and James are accused of second-degree murder for “acting in concert under circumstances evincing a depraved indifference to human life while recklessly engaging in conduct which created a grave risk of death to another person and causing the death of that person or a third person,” a press release issued Wednesday says.

Friends, family give final farewell to 12-year-old Kingston girl News 12 Staff Updated on:Dec 29, 2020, 6:57am EST Family and friends said a final farewell on Monday to a 12-year-old Kingston girl whose life was tragically cut short. A visitation was held at Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home in Kingston for D Janeira Mason. Mason was fatally shot on Dec. 17 outside of her home on Van Buren Street. Her 9-year-old brother was also shot, but he survived. Two men, Gilbert Thomas, 24, and Robert James, 46, have been charged in her murder. They were arrested a week after allegedly firing the fatal gunshots.
