Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn called for the prioritization of teachers and school personnel in the vaccination plan.
Hahn sent letters to the state, including Governor Gavin Newsom, California Department of Public Health, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urging them to update their guidance.
“We need to reopen our schools, and that means vaccinating our teachers as soon as possible,” Hahn said.
The Los Angeles County of Public Health is expected to distribute vaccines in accordance to recommendations by the CDC and state public health department. Last week, the count revealed the plan to distribute the first round of over 80,000 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines, broken into three phases.
Los Angeles County Receives First Batch Of COVID-19 Vaccine
On Monday, Los Angeles County received their first batch of the COVID-19 vaccine with an ICU nurse receiving the first dose in the county.
The FDA issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) of the Pfizer vaccine on Friday after it completed Phase Three clinical trials, and there is potential the Moderna vaccine will receive a EUA in the next two weeks, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
“Today the first COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the United States, including here in Los Angeles County,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of public health.
Providence Health To Receive Over 26,000 Doses Of COVID-19 Vaccine In Next Two Weeks
Providence Health and Services, which operates several locations in Santa Clarita, is expected to receive 26,325 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to be distributed across their network of ten hospitals in southern California.
The initial wave of vaccines is intended for “high-risk” caregivers and service providers employed across the Providence network, which includes Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills and the Facey Medical Group in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“We have been working very diligently in getting ourselves ready for this historical moment,” said Sylvain Trepanier, DNP, RN, Providence regional chief clinical executive. “We’re poised and ready to start vaccinating all of our high-risk caregivers and providers that are working day-in and day-out to keep everyone safe.”

Over 80,000 Doses Of COVID-19 Vaccine To Be Distributed In First Phase Of L.A. County Plan
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) provided an overview of the plan for the distribution of the first 82,875 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine allocated to the county, in a brief on Thursday afternoon.

The 82,875 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine allocated to Los Angeles County are expected to be delivered by early next week, according to Dr. Paul Simon, chief science officer and director of the Division of Assessment, Planning, and Quality at LADPH.
