Vaccination against COVID-19 got off to a slow start in the central region with frontline healthcare workers administered the vaccines on Saturday.
The first phase of the vaccine roll-out seeks to cover doctors, nurses and paramedical and support staff. In Tiruchi, the vaccination drive started with only four doctors receiving the validation message from CoWin (application developed to manage the drive) at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH). Doctors at the GH attributed the glitches to server overload and said it would be rectified soon.

State and district-level committees to have 16 and 34 members respectively
The government has made partial modifications to the State and district-level committees constituted to plan and implement various activities related to the vaccine for coronavirus. This is to ensure inter-departmental coordination with the aligned departments and mobilisation of resources.

A G.O. issued to this effect said the number of representatives in the State task force committee has been increased from 10 to 16, while a district-level task force committee will have 34 members.

Vaccines likely to be administered to frontline health workers by coming Sankranti The Visakhapatnam district administration has taken the lead to vaccinate its 47-lakh population with the Union Government asking the State government to prepare a roadmap for the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Acting on instructions from the State Health Department, authorities constituted a 16-member committee with District Collector V. Vinay Chand acting as its chairperson.

Three persons lost their life to Covid, while 62 persons tested positive for it in Ludhiana district today, taking the death toll in the district to 926.
Those who lost their lives today included three men aged between 40 and 77. Two of them were admitted to Fortis Hospital, while one was admitted to Christian Medical College and Hospital. Out of the total people who tested positive, 33 were referred from flu corners, five each were contacts of positive persons and were referred from OPDs. Seven under-trials also tested positive, while the tracing of 10 was under progress.
Meanwhile, to formulate a strategy to conduct the first-of-its-kind massive Covid vaccination programme, the district administration has set up a 16-member district taskforce (DTF) for coronavirus vaccine committee headed by Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma.
