Wicklow County Council is planning a temporary diversion route to get the Cliff Walk back open – at least on the Greystones side – after it emerged that compulsory purchase orders (CPO) will need to be pursued to secure the preferred long-term route.
Green Party TD for Wicklow Steven Matthews has called for faster action to reopen the hugely popular Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk, which has been closed to the public since 2021.
The ongoing closure of one of Wicklow’s most prized coastal amenities, the Cliff Walk, was raised yet again at the April meeting of Greystones Municipal District.
Councillor Stephen Stokes raised a number of issues relating to recreation in Greystones at the March Municipal District meeting. The perennial issue of the cliff walk was brought to the table, Cllr Stokes asking “if we are any further along”, since the onset of spring made the need for such an important amenity to the district even more pressing.
The struggles facing commuters, as well as those travelling to the airport from Greystones, were raised by Councillor Derek Mitchell during the March meeting of the Greystones Municipal District.
