mueller s dime showed it was part of the propaganda machine. in the hours after the shooting it was russian bots pushing out gun rights, etcetera. i was struck by something mark warner said. he said we each bear some responsibilities for a healthy amount of skepticism when it comes to the dhipgs we read and share on social media. it is becoming more and more true every day. one of the things it s about, news literacy. news rooms have a role and so do
is that what you see happening? all the tweets and all the messages and all the confusing counternarratives, it s just an attempt to flood the zone like that? absolutely. i think it s a way to discredits other institutions that may become critical to him. starting with bob mueller. with the fbi? discrediting mueller, discrediting what may come out throughout justice department through mueller and the press on what we re reporting on what mueller does, so a third of the country will believe it s all overblown or it has been made up or whatever it may be. there is a clear pattern right from the beginning that has actually in some ways worked because it has kept that base together, but it s eroding the trust in the presidency. the trust in this president around the rest of the country, and it has been extremely damaging, i think for our sense of being a single people that we have some sense of unity about
conducting, could it draw out the investigation further? well, lets get separate investigation and a separate special counsel going out to democrats, and was the clinton foundation trading, and the energy field orukrainian. i think republicans are more interested in taking the focus off and discrediting mueller before he does anything and coming out of the box. also, putting a lot and everybody does affect. the president today in the press conference, he says flthere is collusion. all the democrats, they colluded and hillary colluded and the dnc is colluded. that s a clear attempt to smear
sessions to resign because they accuse him of losing control of the justice department and this entire investigation. what s your reaction? my reaction is that we have seen a concerted effort by the white house and external allies and allies in congress to try to tear at the department of justice with the goal of both discrediting mueller and limiting the scope of what mueller can look at. if they can get rid of jeff sessions and put in a more malleable attorney general who is not recused, they can tell bob mueller they can get rid of rod rosenstein. that to me if the motive is to interfere with bob mueller s investigation and represents a serious form of obstruction of justice and i think it s deeply irresponsible for members of the house to be condoning this effort by the white house to interfere with bob mueller s investigation. i think you are confident your investigation is going to
a look at the ten most bitter feuds in american politics in 2017. joining me now to look at this, sarah westwood, washington correspondent for the washington examiner, charlie savage with the new york times, mark stern with slate, and gabe, i ll start with you. perhaps front and center for a while was president trump versus robert mueller, who s leading this investigation into russia s involvement in the election. and we certainly saw this come to light recently in the interview conducted by the new york times with the president this week, the president saying it doesn t bother me because i hope he s going to be fair. i think that he s going to be fair. this has not always been the tone the president has struck over 2017 toward robert mueller. not at all. not only the president, but lots of republicans across washington have tried hard to move towards discrediting mueller in the investigation. they re not necessarily thrilled with the turns the investigation has taken, wrap
