The breaking news. We just learned that the victim in this case, a 53yearold man has died from his injuries. This is a frightening story. These two people had never met before. They were talking on a subway platform, got in to a dispute, one of them pulled a knife to settle it. It started at 116th street and the victim actually got on the train, got on the 2 train and headed down here to 110th street where he collapsed and where medics later found him. Lets go to some video shot about 9 15 this evening, as the victim, a 53yearold man was brought out of the subway station by medics, taken to harlem hospital in Critical Condition originally but hes since died from his injuries. Police dont yet know what the dispute was about, what they were arguing about what the investigation has slowed trains and closed two train stations. Police are investigating, trying to find people who witnessed this, but again, its a subway. Its a train station. People are moving and in transition, very difficult
Trains whisk people on board and roll across the tracks . Those are the questions well get answers to this morning. Remember, the track problem was actually detected in early july near the smithsonian station, but nothing was done about it. Then the derailment happened in early august. Metro conducted an investigat n investigation, found out that an employee mistakenly deleted the information that identified the track problem. Two people so far have resigned because of this, but theres still a whole lot of safety concerns. Trains are rolling slowly in numerous locations because of safety issues that were identified after this derailment. Problems that metro says it has to fix immediately. One of the owners was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation but she is stable and expected to be okay. As for traffic, 73 was empty except for a mass of fire trucks and hoses. Being shut down this long here, ive never seen it before. Not like this here. Back out here life i just spoke with the maple shade chief not long ago. He says the cause of this fire is still under gigs. Theres a lot of gasoline in this building. That was a concern. For now though the fire is mostly out. You see the ladder truck up there. Theyve got the hose on this fire putting out the hot spots. You see some of that smoke still rising from the debris out here at this property. For now though route 73 from main street up and through stiles avenue, it is still closed. It will be for a little while longer. The fire chief says it could be at least an hour, possibly more. The video you can see the video we shot not too long ago, chopper three over this scene last night as the fire burned out of control. The the flames broke out at 6400 block of Point Pleasant pike at 7 00 last night. They found heavy fire in the back of the home. There was even a partial collapse there eventually. The it took dozens of Fire Fighters an hours to knock the the flames down and took all night to extinguish the the fire and clean up the the scene. Again, one man, 58 didnt make it out. They found victim as they sifted through ruble overnight. He was fun on the first floor. Fire Officials Say the the house was cluttered which makes fighting the fire even more difficult. It was a lot of difficulty, there was a lot of material inside the house had a lot of things in the house. So, there was a tremendous head start for the fire.
