Reading Public Library workers have heard many stories of patrons who would love to return to the library, but feel they can t because they owe long overdue late fees or never returned items.
So the library s four branches in the city and nine other libraries across Berks County are testing a pilot program that started June 1 in which late fees will no longer be charged, and which in many cases will help patrons to resolve past problems.
The library is now a fine-free operation for those who return their items before the 30th day from the due date, as they will not be assessed any late fees.
