Last March 12, BuCor destroyed 1,424 pieces of improvised bladed weapons; 1,786 improvised pointed weapons; 167 wooden batons; six slings; 28 improvised arrows; 129 cellular phones; and 18 wi-fi routers.
In a statement, BuCor said the destroyed items were seized from prisoners from October 2020 to February 2021.
“Conforming to its twin mandate of effective safekeeping and rehabilitation of persons deprived of liberty, the Bureau of Corrections is continuously regulating search and confiscation of contrabands inside the Maximum Security Compound and in all other Operating Prison and Penal Farms,” BuCor said in statement issued on Tuesday, March 16.
It said that “investigation had already been conducted and corresponding investigation reports had been concluded and submitted relative to the confiscation and recovery” of the seized contrabands.
