BuCor gets added firearms on one-year deal from PNP

Published May 6, 2021, 12:00 PM Bureau of Corrections The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has beefed up its armory in the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City with firearms obtained from the Philippine National Police (PNP). In a statement, BuCor said that through a one-year agreement with the PNP, the bureau “was loaned 50 M16A1 rifles and 50 shotguns.” It said the additional firearms will be “a huge help in increasing BuCor Officers’ capability to secure the New Bilibid Prison especially the Maximum Security Compound.” It paid tribute to the “teamwork and cooperation” between it and the PNP under the leaderships of BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag and outgoing PNP Chief Gen. Debold M. Sinas.

BuCor tightens anew rule vs mobile phones, gadgets inside NBP, prison farms

Published April 2, 2021, 12:29 PM The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has mobilized anew its personnel in the National Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City and in all its prison farms nationwide to guard against the entry and use of cellular telephones and similar gadgets by persons deprived of liberty (PDLs). Chaclag said on Friday, April 2, the directive to personnel is a standard operating procedure since telephones and mobile gadgets are prohibited inside detention cells and inmates are not allowed to use them. Last March 27, Herbert Colanggo, a convicted leader of a robbery group, was able to upload a video on YouTube and claimed his life is in danger.
