On Monday, EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier pointed out that a free trade deal between the UK and the EU was still possible but the issue of fishing rights remains a sticking point in the two sides ongoing negotiations.
Sky News has quoted a French fisherman as pledging that he and his fellow workers will retaliate against the UK possibly ending the Brexit transition period without a trade deal with the EU. We just won t accept it. For now, we haven t said much, because I think we still had hope, but if we end up with a no deal, then we will all take action , Laurent Merlin said.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Elspeth Macdonald claimed old injustices suffered by the British fishing community with the introduction of the EU s Common Fishing Policy should be revendicated with a new fisheries deal that will see the UK regaining full control of its waters. Ms Macdonald, who believes a no deal Brexit scenario would be far more detrimental to EU fishermen than UK ones, claimed international laws on fishing would allow the UK to decide who comes in and out of its waters.

Giving evidence to the Future Relationship with the European Union Committee, the Cabinet Office Minister said he believes the chances of an agreement with the EU on a post-Brexit trade deal are now less than 50 percent .
