George Vinson, a lieutenant in the Fargo Police Department, is in line to become the next Brainerd police chief should he accept the job offer.
The Brainerd City Council voted Monday, Dec. 21, to offer Vinson the job of outgoing Chief Corky McQuiston, who is soon set to retire.
After the city’s civil service commission whittled the top seven candidates down to three, the council voted 5-2 to offer Vinson the job.
Dave Pritschet, Kelly Bevans, Tad Erickson, Jan Lambert and Gabe Johnson all cast their ballots for Vinson, while Kevin Stunek and Wayne Erickson voted for Brent Baloun, the police chief in Becker who was born and raised in Brainerd.

Three candidates from Becker, Fargo, North Dakota and Salt Lake City, Utah are in the final running to become Brainerd’s next police chief.
George Vinson, Brent Baloun and Victor Siebeneck III were the top picks coming out of the city’s civil service commission meeting Monday, Dec. 14.
The suspect sought in a Nov. 12 Dilworth apartment shooting has been arrested.

DILWORTH, Minn. A 37-year-old man suspected of a November shooting at a Dilworth apartment building was arrested and booked in the Clay County Jail this week.
Authorities searched nearly a month for 37-year-old Dennis Scott Hackley, who was wanted on a second-degree assault charge for allegedly shooting Christopher Lussier.
On the morning of Nov. 12, police responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment building on Fifth Street Northwest, about a quarter-mile west of Dilworth Elementary School. According to police, officers found Lussier, 37, had been shot five times in the leg. An arrest warrant was filed for Hackley later that afternoon.

Seven candidates are set to be interviewed for the Brainerd police chief position Thursday, Dec. 10, to replace Corky McQuistion, who will retire at the end of the year.
The city’s civil service commission, which oversees the hiring process for the police department, chose the following candidates as the top picks. After Thursday’s interviews, council members will likely make a decision on the new chief at their next meeting Dec. 21.
