Yes, larry, this is one of the largest known covid outbreaks in the bay area at a homeless shelter of the 70 people tested positive, 68 are living at the shelter. The other two are Staff Members. Here is what we know about the shelter. Its part of the st. Vincent de paul society of San Francisco. Mayor breed made it clear this shelter was a known hot spot on any given night. The shelter accommodates more than 340 people. But as of last night, there were only 100 people in the shelter as many others are now being housed in hotel rooms. Because of that, breed says the shelter was able to quickly transition into a medical facility, even touting the city was both prepared and quick to respond to this outbreak. Strong, and this safeway has had to change their hours. They are not opening until 6 00 a. M. So they can have time to stock their shelves. They cant keep up with the pace. Shoppers talked about trying three Different Stores yesterday just looking for basics, eggs, bread, milk, from costco to target to safeway, shelves were empty. Stores were trying to stock their own shelves when the shelter in place went in effect. No chicken at all. They dont have eggs. No orange juice. Reporter the California Grocers Association is asking people slow down their buying, and they say grocers cannot keep up with the demand and cannot stock the shelves fast enough, and they want everybody to relax, and safeway is hiring and they have 2,000 openings for northern california, and we do see employees inside working hard, and i saw a delivery truck pull in within the hour, and safeway is working hard to get more on the shelves for you today. In the shelter in place order for the next three weeks, santa clara, and san mateo, contra costa, alameda and San Francisco counties are affected. Banks, gas stations and auto shops can stay open, too. Restaurants are allowed to stay open but limited to takeout and delivery only. These were crafted with great thought and care and also crafted very quickly. And businesses that have to send workers home include bars, clubs and other recreational venues.
