At the Wapsipinicon Country Club April 8, the logo and theme for Anamosaâs RAGBRAI overnight stop July 29 was announced: âSize Matters and We Like it Big.â
âAnamosa is sort of known in the RAGBRAI community for being a fun place to come, and we always come up with fun logos and fun shirts,â RAGBRAI Chair Betty Weimer said.
The theme leans into the cityâs history with the GIANT Pumpkin Weigh Off and the popular âGod Bless Americaâ sculpture that the funds from RAGBRAI will go toward getting back full time after it left in 2019.
âWe just wanted to have fun with it,â Anamosa Chamber of Commerce Executive Director LeeAnna Boone said of the big theme.
With COVID still a factor, there will be some subtle differences this year focusing on safety and health. However, there is a lot of enthusiasm among cyclists and the host communities. Drake says a new idea has been developed since he joined the team about a year and a half ago, with the marketing team and staff members launching the RAGBRAI Roadshow last fall.
There are four pre-RAGBRAI events planned with the crew heading to Carroll for an April 24 ride. This joint effort acts as a fundraiser in support of the Sauk Rail Trail, starting at 1 p.m. at Kerp’s Tavern and the Carroll Brewery.

RAGBRAI Director Dieter Drake says he has growing confidence that the 2021 edition of RAGBRAI will happen as a full-scale ride albeit with some COVID-19-related precautions.
The 48th Register s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa is scheduled for July 25-31. Its 426-mile route will take riders from Le Mars to Sac City, Fort Dodge,Iowa Falls, Waterloo, Anamosa and DeWitt, ending in Clinton.
Last year the ride was canceled for the first time in its history because of the pandemic. At the end of January, Drake and other RAGBRAI organizers announced that the ride would be back for 2021, but they acknowledged there were still many questions to answer about its scale and format.
