The virus in the first place. We remember not too long ago the when we finally made the announcement that we would be opening gyms and hair salons and nail salons. Just think about how good it felt to feel normal. To go and get your hair done or your nails done or to go and workout at the gym and enjoy your time there, but just think about how much more important it was to the people who were finally able to open their business, who were finally able to get a paycheck, who finally had some level of certainty in their lives that they would be able to take care of themselves. Now, think about whats happening now. Im sure that so many of those people are scared. Last week we told the restaurants that they would no longer be able to operate indoors. What that meant was not only layoffs, but it also meant that there was a lot of lost revenue because of the food that they no longer were able to use. I. Survey called for a culture of preferential treatment and called for an overhaul of the department. In 2004, Marcus Armstrong and a d. B. I. Investigator plead guilty for taking bribes. In 2010, permit expediter jimmy jen was jailed on 232 felony fraud counts brought by District Attorney and Vice President elect kamala harris. In may 2020, Rodrigo Santos, a former Building Inspections commissioner was arrested by the f. B. I. And charged with bank fraud. The City Attorney already had a pending civil complaint against santos from several years ago for endangering the city and the public by skirting requirements on several properties. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to review this book today, and to talk a little bit about the latino immigrant experience in the United States. Our guest is ray suarez, who has written a really terrific book entitled latino americans the 500year legacy that shaped a nation. Its a companion to the Ground Breaking pbs series on latino americans. In barely 250 pages, ray takes the reader through the broad sweep of Latino History in the United States, even before there was a United States, from the spanish explorers to the modern day. Its a majestic effort, in my view. Seeking to discover and highlight the history and future of the latino experience in the United States, and to put in context in order to build a broader appreciation for latino experience. It
