she always did things for other people. she cared about others a lot. sherry was also a punctual emmoe employ employee. so when she didn t come to work one day and didn t call, her co-workers were concerned. they called her husband, bob, who said she left for work at the usual time that morning and he didn t know where she was. so her friends called police. a couple officers looked around, knocked on the door, nobody answers. but they find an unlocked door. so they go into the house and they walk through the house. everything looks orderly, everything looks tidy. sherry s clothes, jewelry and toiletries were still in the house. it seemed very unusual that a woman with three children would just suddenly disappear. for the next two days, there were no signs of her. then police got a call about a red van driving erratically.
statistics and read them for what they are. you can t just throw statistics out there. i think the justice department did a heavy duty investigation. that wasn t a heavy duty investigation. 37,000 pages or records from the ferguson police. 27,000 pieces of information. that s fine. what i m saying is there s always three sides to a story. they went out and they interviewed hundreds of people in the ferguson community. mostly minorities. and asked them about their situations with the police. they took their statements as gospel. they didn t check them out. they didn t find out they looked at the police reports. didn t call police officers in and say in this instance why didn t you make a stop. there were some problems with ferguson. i agree with all of the stipulations that the police department need to adhere to in their recommendations. i agree with them all.
make sure we re clear, this is not just to our neighborhood. that s true. but what i want to say is what s different in long island some of those people have a social network, and the communities like flatbush the social network is fwho there. the cycling keep continuing. you wrote about the incident and you say the teens involved must accept responsibility, but, quote, this type of youth into at that time only proves the need for increased funding for violence interrupter programs and others that would further engage students in extracurricular activity. how much more do we need to do? a lot. we want to stop the knee-jerk reaction of saying just police. the police are not the ones who didn t call anybody. the police didn t cut the programs that have the kids
speaker boehner and mccarthy are rallying behind scalise. boehner calling the speech an error in judgment but saying he has his full confidence as house whip. carrie dan joins us now. damage control, damage control. has he done enough? well, i think right now what you re seeing house speaker john boehner. it was not a wishy washy statement. speaker boehner said he has high confidence. he s a man of high integrity. you have statement reports from others like kevin mccarthy. house democratic leader nancy pelosi a statement from a spokesman that criticized the party overall but didn t call for scalise oust per. he appears to be in an okay position. the thing going forward when congress comes back next week if we see continued fallout from this and continued criticism from both within the parties and
you that that s a red flag? no. there s been some speculation about the speed of the aircraft. and the problem is during the early moments of any tragedy like this, the early information you got to take it with a very skeptical eye. you re not sure if the information is correct or not. it s my experience that oftentimes the early information is simply not correct. so i don t think we have enough information yet to begin speculating on what the pilots were doing, where they were headed, why they didn t call may day. we just don t know. and we got to wait for the sunrise and get as many resources as we can in the right location dictated by the last signals from the aircraft. and peter, we just heard from mary schiavo who said the most important thing people can do now while it s dark over there
