records related to the saudi backed golf league. connecting that up with an investigation into classified documents which causes me to wonder a lot of things. certainly, there is no answer to these things that we know, but is there some connection that perhaps there is some concerns that donald trump is sharing classified secrets with the saudis? that would be a blockbuster huge development in this case because the one aggravating factor that is the worst of all is to share secrets with an foreign adversary. that is the kind of thing for which the rosenberg s were executed. we i don t know that we are there yet, but that is a really eye-popping fact that emerges in this new reporting. ryan, i want to turn to the proud boys trial, you have been actually covering this for months and i first want to show video of one of the men that was convicted. this is a video of joseph biggs. so, we just stormed the
defendants. and i want to play just some of what we have heard from the former president. and, if i win, we will treat those people from january six fairly, we will treat them fairly. and if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons. because they are being treated so unfairly. financially supporting people that are incredible, and it s a disgrace what they ve done to them. what they ve done to these people, it s disgraceful. i drove 30 hours to see today sir. right here that last woman actually served time for her actions on january six. look, michael, these are donald trump s own words. there are people out there who would say, we have it on tape,
grounds of the u.s. capitol that day brought into a conspiracy, criminal conspiracy involving the attack on the u.s. capitol. so, obviously it has broader implications for the jack smith investigation in terms of donald trump s involvement if there s any charges related to the january 6th attack itself. you know, this is a big win for doj because this was a big challenge, the sort of one for the gold here and they went for this case that involved seditious conspiracy charges and got 4 to 5 counts. and, it s very explainable why that fifth count didn t go through. but they also kind of illustrates that the jury was playing very close attention to the evidence here and wasn t giving prosecutors everything that they wanted. because when you have a conviction that comes back not guilty. they could, say this is what the jury fact. this is the, evidence and they found there was enough evidence to support the seditious conspiracy charges against its nada really a win for dominic pezzola.
michaels reporting, how important do you think these developments are specifically in determining whether or not donald trump himself had the documents or if he directed someone to do so? i think there are two really significant they exhibit that reporting, one is this focus on obstruction of justice. because i think that is the key to this case, and what makes it different from the kind of inadvertent retention that we see from joe biden and mike pence. it isn t so much that he has these documents but that he was evading the efforts of the department of justice to get them back. typically, cases involving this handling of classified documents are not charged criminally unless there is the presence of some aggravating factor and obstruction of justice would be one of those factors. so, that seems important to me. the other is the reporting that one of these subpoenas was for the trump organization s
convicted, as you say, of felonies in connection with the january 6th attack. so it s not as though sentencing is going to be a walk in the park for him when that eventually comes about. so, the proud boys were some of the instigators of the january 6th riot and some of them participated, many of them. barbara, ryan involved the implications and could have for jack smith s case. what could those implications? be a lot of people are wondering will the lower level folks only be held accountable and not donald trump? yes. that really is the key question, that, i think, emerges from this key conviction. as ryan said, i think all eyes were very much on enrique ontario in this case. because, unlike all of the oath keepers defense, and unlike all of the other defense in this case. he was not physically present at the capitol on january six. so, conspiracy is just an agreement to commit some sort of crime. so, seditious conspiracy is this agreement, this plan to use force against the autho
