Life at the Baxter County Library

Summer Reading is on its Way Get ready for summer reading. The Baxter County Library has an outstanding lineup of summer programs starting Saturday, June 5, through Saturday, Aug. 14. It all starts with an outdoor Summer Reading Kick-Off event in the Library parking lot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 5. Enjoy activities and fun games, such as sidewalk chalk and bubbles and a special visit from animals from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Dickerson Park Zoo. During the kick-off, kids can pick up their summer reading packets, enjoy a treat and have fun. Summer reading packets contain instructions for participating in the library’s summer reading program, which encourages children and teens to read all summer. Participants receive prizes for the amount of reading they do. Plus, summer reading has another benefit  it prevents the “summer slide” by helping children retain the reading skills they developed the previous school year.
