150 Years Ago: March 1871
March 4th Osterville - A daughter of Mr. James Codd, aged ten years, on Friday last, picked up a loaded pistol in the street, she took it to school with her, placing it in her cloak pocket. In some way, one of the charges was exploded, the ball entering the upper part of her bowels. A surgeon failed to reach the ball by probing, and though the child lived there was little hope of her recovery. She died on Thursday.
