Between Opening Day of 1915 and Closing Day of 2022, the Cubs hit for a cycle in an inning at least 89 times.
"At least" is because baseball-reference.com does not.
Having written about wins and losses by the Cubs that ended on:
1. Strikeout/throwout double plays
2. Players caught on attempted straight steals
3. Pickoffs
4. Outs at bases on last-play hits
.
A previous post reported that the Cubs have lost 19 games that ended with a runner being thrown out on a straight steal attempts, and 6 that concluded with a tag on a pickoff.
That's a total of 25.
Patrick Wisdom recently became the 374th player to reach 500 plate appearances as a Cub.
He is the 343rd non-pitcher.
They average 1,894 PA. Ernie Banks had the most, 10,396, followed by Cap.
The play isn't exactly rare, but it occurs often in other levels of baseball than in the Major Leagues:
Runners are on first and third. As the pitcher begins his motion, the runner on first breaks.
