Labour accused of publicising its secret code for judging anti-semitism claims as an attempt to pre-empt court hearing

THE Labour Party’s publication of a previously secret code of conduct for judging claims of anti-semitism is an apparent attempt to pre-empt an imminent court hearing, accused members have said. The party is being taken to the High Court by six of its members from Labour Activists for Justice (LA4J), with two others supported by the Left Legal Fighting Fund. They are demanding that Labour make its disciplinary process fair and just for all members. An aspect of their claim concerns the party’s use of an unpublished code of conduct to judge anti-semitism cases. Accused members could not access the code and therefore use it in their defence. Labour repeatedly refused to publish it.

Labour slammed by Jewish members for pursuing them on antisemitism charges

A DOZEN Jewish members of Labour who have been investigated in relation to anti-semitism accused the party today of “increasing discrimination and harassment” of socialists. There have been at least 35 investigations of Jewish members this year, some still ongoing, with 11 people suspended or expelled on such charges. Though many are prevented from speaking publicly by legal or professional constraints, 12 agreed to go on the record by making a signed public statement, due to the “gravity” of the situation. The 12 expressed outrage at being pursued by the party over anti-semitism allegations, accusing Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer of making a “mockery” of his own pledge to create a safe space for Jews.

Labour members file High Court action over unfair disciplinary system

LABOUR members filed High Court action against the party this week over investigations into their alleged conduct taking place under a system that it admitted was “unfair”. The group of seven, four of whom are Jewish, said Labour had accepted the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) report on the party’s handling of anti-semitism complaints and that its disciplinary process was “not fit for purpose.” However the members said that they were investigated over anti-semitism claims under the very process that Labour said it would replace.  The group, Labour Activists For Justice (LA4J), said it had been “unjustly accused of undermining the party’s ability to campaign against racism, have been working for six months to persuade the party to improve its disciplinary process for the benefit of all members, but have been rejected at every approach.”
