Lopez can attend board meetings, ask questions of staff and participate in board discussions before casting "preferential votes," which won't be counted in the vote tally but will be recorded as a formal expression of opinion.
The board unanimously approved a five-year contract with the YMCA to revive the overnight outdoor camp at the YMCA’s Camp Oakes, beginning in the 2023-24 school year.
Plans are in the works for the district to bring back its week-long outdoor learning expedition for fifth graders next school year, with the location changed to the YMCA’s Camp Oakes near Big Bear, off State Route 38.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the board swore in a new member, Area 1 representative Maria Isabel López, and elected Diana Craighead as president of the board for the next year. Board member Doug Otto will serve as vice president for the upcoming year.
