HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) -The city council wrapped up a three-hour meeting diving into a report on how Huntsville police officers responded during the June 2020 protests Wednesday night.
One thing everyone can seem to agree on is there are many opportunities to get better. The city administrator says the officers are very well trained but will continue that training.
WAFF was inside City Hall when the special session took place. Here are some of the concerns that were addressed.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - More training and better communication. These were two of the findings after an independent review of the Huntsville Police Departmentâs response to the June 2020 protests.
The Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Councilâs independent review council presented these recommendations to city leaders and the public on Thursday evening. After an almost year-long investigation, we now have an almost 300-page report. The work put into this ranges from interviews with community members to reviewing many hours of police bodycam footage.

But is wasn’t easy.
“From the price of beans to the price of equipment to the price of people, every element was increased,” Keith said. “Nothing was cheaper. Our commitment to do it this year was when we projected Huntsville to be in another space and place, but the world changed overnight.”
“Crazy may be the word for it,” the 32-year-old Wilson said. “It’s absolutely a gutsy move. We’ve had a ton of people to ask the same question. Why? What were we thinking? We just knew it was time.”
